46 Leppington Station Extra Spaces Announced???

Aug 3, 2018 —

Good morning Fellow Residents, Commuters and Supporters Greetings from Nesebar in Bulgaria In response to an article in the Liverpool Champion on 23rd July 2018 see following link https://www.liverpoolchampion.com.au/story/5541603/plans-worth-12m-opposed/ I posted this comment on my Facebook page on the 31/7/18.

When you sit down and think about it you have to ask WHY ARE INVESTIGATIONS NECESSARY WHEN BOTH EDMONDSON PARK AND LEPPINGTON STATIONS ARE LOCATED IN THE TOWN CENTRES OF MASTER PLANNED COMMUNITIES AND THOSE PLANS ARE ALREADY APPROVED AND IN PLACE? THE ZONING IS SET, AREAS ALLOCATED AND EVEN POPULATION DENSITY KNOWN.

Following the Car Parking Crisis Petition Update on the 23rd July 2018 in the Liverpool Champion I posted that The Budget announcement for further investigation was a smoke screen, a delaying tactic, a fob off by the NSW LIBERAL Government to try and put the Car Parking Crisis on the back burner until after the NSW State Election, in my opinion.

$550,000 in funds was allocated for “investigations” only into the Car Parking Crisis (Only $150,000 is allocated to Edmondson Park - I am still waiting for confirmation of the amount allocated to Leppington Station as the $550k was for Ed Park and Casula).

Melanie Gibbons MP for Holsworthy said “The investigations will look into whether to go up, out, if we need to purchase land, and the like. It’s important to get it right." And it is important to get things right however, as I said at the beginning of the post the master plans have already been determined so we can only hope that they were right to begin with.

It's a bit late now for the Government to start thinking about buying more land for Car Parking. Then on the 1st August I came across the media release from Greg Warren and started wondering if I had missed an announcement from the State Government about extra Carparking spaces at Leppington Station? AND INDEED I HAD.

After doing a bit more investigation of my own I found this article written by Daniel McGookin in the Macarthur Chronicle Camden on the 19th July 2018.

Leppington Station may welcome new temporary carpark.

THE parking woes at Leppington station may soon be a thing of the past, with the NSW Government considering a proposal to introduce 335 extra parking spaces.

Plans for a temporary carpark, at 297 Bringelly Rd opposite Leppington station, are in motion, with the site currently the subject of a $102 million development proposal for two eight-storey buildings.

Transport for NSW are considering plans for a temporary commuter carpark at Leppington station.

The southern part of the 2.4ha property would be leased temporarily to Transport for NSW, as part of the multi-million-dollar development.

A Transport for NSW spokeswoman said a number of options were being considered to alleviate parking pain at Leppington, including the temporary carpark.

“Transport for NSW is aware a development application has been submitted for 297 Bringelly Rd, which includes consideration for a car park,” the Transport for NSW spokeswoman said.

“The option for commuter carparking on this land will be considered as part of the larger investigation we have under way to improve access to Leppington station.”

The 850-space commuter carpark at Leppington station has been overwhelmed since it first opened in early 2015, with motorists frequently resorting to parking on nature strips, pavements and in no stopping zones.

Michael Andjelkovic has launched a petition, calling for more parking spaces.

A petition by Prestons resident Michael Andjelkovic calling for increased parking at Leppington and Edmondson Park stations has received more than 6000 signatures.

The Transport for NSW spokeswoman said investigations were in place to cater for the demands of the growing Leppington community.

“Transport for NSW will undertake planning work to determine how additional carparking at Leppington station can be delivered,” the spokeswoman said.

“This will include an analysis of land use, further technical investigations around the station as well as monitoring the bus, pedestrian and cycle networks.

“These investigations will help to inform short-, medium- and long-term plans to improve access.”

Leppington station is not the only commuter carpark feeling the strain, with Campbelltown state Labor MP Greg Warren circulating a petition calling for a multistorey carpark at Campbelltown station.

But Don't get your hopes too high.

When the a government says They are "Considering Plans"  as part of a "Larger Investigation" this is political double talk it's "A Possible Maybe" that could drag out for years.

This is a smokescreen, a way to get the issue out of the way prior to the State Election, in my opinion.

Until a commitment is made that says "We are building a Multi Level Carpark at Edmondson Park and Leppington Stations" it doesn't count as far as I am Concerned.

The #MoreParkingNow Car Parking Crisis Campaign must continue until a commitment is made by both major parties for Multi Level Carparks to be Built at Leppington and Edmondson Park Stations.

Please continue to Share the Petition and Video Links and Comments which can all be found on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/Michael.Independent/

Yours sincerely
